Abstract
This invention is about new method of re-entry for rocket-stages/spaceships/spacecrafts from Space to Earth involving rotatable curved heat-shield plates (called petals) with fins attached at middle and whole structure hinged to top of rocket-stage using a retractable boom. The curvature of petals match rocket surface, on which they rest. Integrated with an elevating system hinged to the top of rocket-stage, enables movement of boom along with petal structure from resting position to other side of hinge, offering 180-degree of motion. Petals rotate on axis of boom 180 degree (half-circle). In this configuration, petals form a dynamic tail structure with fins exposed outwards providing an elevated high-drag position for rocket-stage during reentry. During ascent part of rocket flight, petals sit neatly on rocket surface offering minimum drag/air resistance. During re-entry, boom extends, petals rotate to form dynamic stabilizing tail and provide control, maneuverability, natural stability (spin, roll-over stability) and ability to fly/glide and directional control with minute adjustment of fins.
